Posted by Greg on Apr 20, 2015

The Raspberry Pi 2 is an amazing single board computer than can be used for thousands of projects. However, when you go to explain for great it is many people want to know what you do with it. If you say "almost anything" they just can't conceptualize what is meant. To make things easier we gathered six great Raspberry Pi projects to help spur the imagination and give a few practical examples that almost anybody can make and use.

MCM Electronics at LRITA 4/16/15

Posted by Greg on Apr 20, 2015

MCM Electronics traveled to the Lima Regional Information Technology Alliance Conference in Lima, OH this past Thursday to talk about MCM Electronics in general and the Raspberry Pi 2 in particular. We had plenty of Raspberry Pi's on hand plus a classic game emulator loaded up with Doom & Quake. In addition we had a sheet detailing six basic projects that can be created using the Raspberry Pi so attendees could better understand the practical applications of the board. While most of the attendees had heard of the Pi, very few had seen one in operation or in use. Overall the Pi was a stand out hit of the conference and the drawing for a free Raspberry Pi starter kit drew a lot of attention. [More]

Raspberry Pi 2 RetroPie Game Emulator

Posted by Greg on Mar 9, 2015

There have been many blog posts written about setting up a game emulator using the Raspberry Pi, however with the release of the Raspberry Pi 2 and its amazing speed I wanted to see just how much better game play is on the latest board. This quick run through shows how I created my system so I could play some of my favorite classic games and how I got around the minor issues I encountered. What you will need is the equipment listed below, a game emulator along with game files (ROMs). Please note that you are not legally allowed to create a ROM (Digital Copy) of a game unless you own a physical copy of the game. I have limited myself to games that I personally own a copy for my demos.

Happy 3rd Birthday - The Life of Raspberry Pi

Posted by Christian on Feb 24, 2015

Three years ago today, a credit-card sized computer was released by the Raspberry Pi foundation. While we remember it well, it seems like ages ago that the original arrived, and changed single board computing forever. For a mere $35 and a few common peripherals, kids, adults, teachers and tinkerers could have a fully functioning Linux computer with which to do whatever they liked. Play games, learn to code, or interact with sensors, screens and switches. From there, an entire ecosystem evolved around the board. Prominent GPIO pins allowed for a multitude of add-on boards to fit virtually any need, and uses for the Pi were expanding at a rapid pace. Home theater media centers, time-lapse camera rigs, weather balloons, and bitcoin mining clusters became common projects built with the Pi. [More]

Posted by Greg on Feb 10, 2015

With the launch of the new Raspberry Pi 2 Model B we thought it would be a great idea to visit a few local maker spaces and let them see it up close.
