International Steampunk Symposium Creations

Posted by Greg on Apr 28, 2015

Once again my work life and personal life collided this weekend when I attended the International Steampunk Symposium in Cincinnati, OH.

If you are not familiar with steampunk it started off as a literary genre in the 1980's and has since grown into a large and vibrant community of makers, artists and revisionist historians that touches every aspect of culture. The most common way to describe steampunk is as an alternate history that started during the age of steam, but moved along to present time along a divergent timeline where steam power is the primary source of power. It is a magical world of top hats, corsets, tailcoats, brass gadgets, rayguns and creations that are known as much for their style as their function.

MCM Electronics at LRITA 4/16/15

Posted by Greg on Apr 20, 2015

MCM Electronics traveled to the Lima Regional Information Technology Alliance Conference in Lima, OH this past Thursday to talk about MCM Electronics in general and the Raspberry Pi 2 in particular. We had plenty of Raspberry Pi's on hand plus a classic game emulator loaded up with Doom & Quake. In addition we had a sheet detailing six basic projects that can be created using the Raspberry Pi so attendees could better understand the practical applications of the board. While most of the attendees had heard of the Pi, very few had seen one in operation or in use. Overall the Pi was a stand out hit of the conference and the drawing for a free Raspberry Pi starter kit drew a lot of attention. [More]

How to Replace an iPhone Screen

Posted by Greg on Mar 23, 2015

Smart phones are great and such a convenience in life that we can scarcely image what we would do without them. Our dependency on them makes it all the more painful when accidents happen and a screen is cracked or shattered. That is just what happened a few days ago to a family member who dropped their's down a flight of concrete steps just days after they swapped out their hefty case for a slim lightweight case. The iPhone landed face down as it tumbled down the steps and the result can be seen below. It still worked, but certain areas of the screen were about useless to try and view.
