Microchip released the chipKit Pi this week. The chipKIT Pi expansion board is the latest in a line of Raspberry Pi add-on boards that extend compatibility to the Arduino family of products. Designed by Element 14 and Microchip, the chipKIT Pi is designed to allow developers a way to create, compile and program Arduino sketches within the Raspberry Pi operating system. Once the sketch is complete it can be uploaded and run on the chipKIT Pi without the Raspberry Pi board being attached.

The chipKIT Pi was designed to be hobbyist friendly by using a SPDIP package for the PIC32MCU. This way it can be swapped out easily for upgrades or if is damaged in some way.
Derek Carlson, Microchip’s vice president of Development Tools explains more.

“The chipKIT Pi’s advanced features simplify Arduino based application development for the Raspberry Pi,”-”This new expansion board also adds large memory space, fast performance and integrated peripherals for human-interface, audio-processing and advanced-control applications.”

MCM Electronics has the chipKIT Pi in stock, sku 83-15549 priced at $26.99. The stock is limited so make sure you act quickly.
